For whatever reason, i’ve decided to embark upon another journey of futility. When I got Jason’s record collection, I told myself I was going to try to listen to all of them. I don’t think I’ve listened to all the records I own and he’s got at least 6-7 times the amount of records I have.
To add to this sham, I’m going to try and catalog all of the records. there will be the date I listened to the record, the artist, album title, my personel rating, and the date it was recorded.
Aaaaaah, good times. Most of the records I will surely enjoy as Jason has good taste in music.. You can follow the process - here. For future reference, the link is listed under music as Jason’s Records.
The initial going was slow as I had the grand idea of listening to a record from each letter of the alphabet. Well, that got old after two times through the alphabet. From here on out, I’ll be doind them in groups of 5 from each letter of the alphabet. That will definitely speed up the process as I don’t have to dig through each letter one album at a time.
ahhh… many cans of worms will be opened by that ratings system. i see a couple of albums that i would have certainly rated 5… er… at least 0.5 above the B52s (though this is a really good one).
it was the second record i listened to at the start of this quest. things may/will change but i really do love that b52s album.
Which Goldberg Variations recording?
1955 or
1981?
1955. I think. I’ll check when I get home but from what I remember from reading the album cover - it’s 1955. Regardless, I will check and update the appropriate column.
the goldberg variations in question should be the 1955 version (the 81 version is amazingly different and also fantastic - i have it here with me on CD) and should of course be a 5 rating, but i have decided not to interfere with this rating system as long as beef coverts these records to digital while listening… (by the way, beef, we are still awaiting our first DVD-R with the albums we set aside for you to record, and you can add to the list the entire elvis costello and minutemen collection por favor. priority to imperial bedroom, get happy, ballot result and double nickels. i’ll keep you posted on my joneses as they appear). go beef go!!
jason, you’d give 5s out like they were candy. the 5 has to be reserved for something special. the b52s will be modified as it was about the second record i’d listened to and i really love that album. most albums have been getting between a 3 and 4. a few two’s and maybe a one every once and a while. i’ve had a little trouble trying not to give an artist a higher rating just because i love them. we’ll see how it works out.
as far as the dvd goes. i have yet to begin work on that. it requires moving the record player in by the computer, setting up the amp, and fiddling with it to no end. maybe one of these upcoming days and megan is out of school and decides to go somewhere i can increase the amount of mess i create for a short while.
