I’ve installed linux on my ipod. Unfortunately, not all features are supported because they are still working on the 4 generation ipod linux software. Mainly, I can’t record on it which is really what I am looking to do. However, if you have a third generation (mine is fourth), they have a pretty solid linux package completed. You can find the main page here.

this scares me as almost all of my files are VBR/high bit rate.
i think they have fixed the high vbr problem. initial remarks comment about skipping but as of late that has changed.
supposedly one of the better features is that you record at a higher sampling rate. with the apple software and the required attachment, you could only sample at 8kHz, with the linux software it expands it up to 96kHz and you can use your own mic or even headphones to record.
