I don’t understand, I guess. Why would Congress give a rat’s pa-toot what George Soro buys into? I’m sure MLB has bigger problems than the politicizing of their industry. Maybe Soros just wants in on the good steroids… hee hee…

From my reading of this article and one in the nytimes, the few people in congress who suggested this brought up the fact that he donated some 5 million dollars to try to defeat bush. There is also another group, mainly republicans (including Colin Powell), who are also trying to purchase the Nationals. Currently, the Nationals are owned by MLB, when the previous owners in Montreal basically abandoned them. I think the league has had control of them for four years or so.
Here is the NY Times article, a little more to it but as always registration is most likely required.
Where Baseball has become a political football.
    I love this one.

As if the feud over ownership is not enough, the Nationals appear to have created a sartorial quandary for some. Certain Democrats, it seems, feel queasy about wearing the team’s signature “W” caps, which evoke a certain former part-owner of the Texas Rangers.

The neocon republicans hate Soros so bad that they just don’t know where to stop. They are trying to bring all kinds off investigations and lawsuits against him and some right wing owned banks are campaigning to boycott his business. Nut just that he contributed major money to the anti-Bush drive, but he has promoted democracy, open society and corporate responsibility around the globe, especially in eastern Europe….so bad…so evil…he just doesn’t play the financial game the way they want everybody to play it. Therefore, hi is the dangerous pariah billionaire and a thief that must be stopped at any cost. I guess that applies to sport just as to banking. Extreme ideology and faith based thinking at it’s most ridicules.
