a last minute decision to go see panic at the gorge (on the 2nd of July, I know - long time ago.). i had downloaded a set from bonaroo ( i think) and listened to it. wheeee, i was sucked in again. tasty licks and the whole shebang. luckily the show was about a week out.
really, the gorge has got to be the single best place to see a concert in the us. out in the rolling plains of eastern washington, next to the columbia river. red rocks has its own selling points but as far as nature and the escape from civilization, the gorge can not be beat. denver is to close to red rocks for you to really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.
Too long ago for an in depth description about the weekend’s hilarities but here are a few photos with a little description of each.
1) this is crossing of the columbia at vantage, wa. windy is the only word to describe this place.
2) looking back to the campgrounds near the entrance of the venue.
3) impersonation of a campground security guard. the highwaters and the tight pants made it come together. he had a whistle. eventually the “security” didn’t think it was very funny and made him stop
4) panic at the beginning of the set. the gorge behind them in all of its splendor.
5 & 6) Looking off into the distance from inside the venue.
7) the sunset off to the west. direct sunshine + picture = not so much. use your imagination.
8 & 9) panic at dark during the second set.
10) mt rainier through my front window as i am driving.
I went to the gorge numerous times when i first got out here but before this show i hadn’t been out there in at least 4-5 years. It was good to go back. If the right show comes around. I’ll go back.
