ah. the past year has been filled with love, hate, excitement, food, and general carrying on. sometimes i managed to post reflections on the events in my daily life, other times i was just to plain lazy and the moment slipped on by. i appreciate the solid 5 viewers from across the globe and will try to provide a more international flavor to appease to those search engines who find me in the eastern hemisphere of the world. as a favor to myself and to those that i love in the world - i present a list of things which you may have possibly missed and which i believe will not make you a worse person for viewing.
ding, dong, the slaab is dead. as of 6pm this evening, i am no longer the proud owner of a saab. it has been thrust away from my heart and will find a better home in a far away land. the last few months have been painful, as it cried out everytime i stepped into the mercedes. i swear, on one dark and rainy night in december it tried to get me. luckily the battery had drained by that point and it didn’t have the get up and go to get me. slaab, i’ll never forget you.
I’m always on the lookout for new podcasts to entertain myself. I, trying to be different or not the same as others around me, look for odd things that may not initially appeal to others in the realm of the living. John Hodgman has begun to provide me with that source of entertainment.
I first listened to him back in about November or December when he was pimping his new book - The Area of My Expertise - both on The Daily Show and The Sound of Young America. Quite funny with a dry sense of humor would be an understatement.
I was listening to KUOW on president’s day when they were playing Little Gray Book Lecture #34. The hour show ended with a funny diddy about all of the presidents written and sung by the show’s musical director, Jonathan Coultan. When I arrived home, I searched for the program, unaware of where I actually knew the names of the hosts, and was pleasantly suprised to find out that it was John Hodgman. The rest of the story goes, I downloaded the podcasts, which unfotuneately are only excerpts from the show, but still provides a pleasant sampling of the hilarity which ensues.
What I’m trying to say is a) if you live in the greater nyc area, keep your eyes open for the next Little Gray Book Lecture (the site isn’t really up to date but who knows) and b) check out the Little Gray Book podcasts.
Sometimes it seems impossible to write on this wonderful space. I have the time, the material, but not the drive. Hence, a post about dinner on Valentine’s Day. Each year Megan and I usually do somethingeither the day before or the day after V-Day to enjoy the evening and not the long lines that usually surround better eating establishments on the 14th of February.
However, this year, Chard suggested we come over to Angela’s house to participate in some culinary discussions. Never to pass up a meal prepared at someone’s house, we merrily showed up at the appointed time to stuff our faces. Below lie a few of the moments that were captured that evening. Dinner consisted of a nice arugala salad with roasted beets, a medium rare seared duck brest, and a leg of duck confit. Truly a marvel and another dinner well done.
i recently described the effort to remove the old couch from our living room. The occasion, the purchase of a new couch. The old couch had its benefits - it sat a lot of people - basically. However, the main flaw of said sectional couch was that the individual pieces would not stay together very well. The couch was not very comfortable for sleeping. One would lay down upon and slowly but surely, the pieces would slide apart. I’m sure there was some fancy contraption that would hold pieces of the sectional together but in my brief search, I was unsuccessful. Below are picture of the wonderful new addition to the family. Mych to the pugs chagrin, the law of the land is “no pugs allowed”.
i purchased the parts for a new computer last week and spent a good portion of the weekend putting it together. as always their were close calls, bouts of frustration, but in the end, the joy was momentous. nevermind the fresh install to help speed everything up but i can now run other programs while playing my wonderful warcraft. i’ve also have consolidated my music on to a single 400 gb drive. previous to this, i had it scattered on 4 different drives. my itunes won’t get confused nearly as much with the music all in one place. a brief run down for my own personal satisfaction.
