another etree bittorrent for those who enjoy. this one is bobby previte’s coalition of the willing from last friday night at the tractor tavern. the cast of characters include bobby previte, charlie hunter, skerik, and Marco Benevento.
the interesting note about this is that charlie played a 6-string guitar instead of his typical 8-string. jason thought charlie looked a little angry or maybe dissatisfied about how things were going in the first set and i agree. he just looked like he wanted certain things to get done that weren’t getting done. if was just for certain moments in the first set. the second set was all good and quite a treat.
Aaaaah, Nikolai Volkoff and the Iron Sheik. It was great to be alive and a teenage boy in the early to mid 80s. Every Sunday morning the forces of evil would battle against the champions of good.
You may wonder what may have spurred this tangent. Well, I was looking for information about a show on Friday night. One of the main performers is Tim Young. Punch that into google and the Tim Young I want is not first, it is the campaign manager for Nikolai Volkoff’s run for Baltimore County House of Delegates, District 7. From what I can gather, this is going on right now. Spenser, it is your duty to provide a little more information on the powers and the body this former wrestler and current code enforcer is trying to become a part.
Also, as a follow up, I would really like to see a picture of someone wearing a campaign shirt.
New favorite label time. I’ve enjoyed Ubiquity for a good while now. So, it’s time to profess my love for it to the masses. The label consists of a variety of music that falls into the hip-hop, funk, soul, and world categories. Lots of horns, lots of funky rhythms.
Artists that I have purchased and enjoy on a regular basis:
Breakestra
Greyboy
Greyboy Allstars
|
NOMO
Nostalgia 77
Ohmega Watts

Quantic
Darando

I also own about half the samplers put out on this page and on that page.
another excellent monday night. for those of you who enjoy the funk - here is a torrent link to the may 8th celebration.
…with KITT rising from the ashes to save the world.
The spring has been slow for shows. Look here for proof. Mostly, there wasn’t anything that i wanted to see, mostly. But things changed as of last night, a guaranteed good time, every monday, has started up again. Das Rut has been resurrected at the High Dive. Not that they went anywhere but I don’t recall seeing many bookings over the last year. They all perform incredibly and the “band” is not really a band but a gathering of good times. They were a staple in the last neighborhood I lived in, the Ravenna/Roosevelt area. Every Thursday they would lay down the funk at the Scarlet Tree. A nice place to have breakfast would transform to party central as they threw down increasingly funky licks with horns dancing, keyboards singing, and sweet, sweet Reggie Watts.
Mmmmmm, how i love the funk. Give me an organ and some horns and good times will be had by all. I checked the show out last night, hoping to get some good visits in before the monday night blows up. It is not a matter of if, but when, monday night will be the highlight of everyone’s week. I told myself, “well, I’ll just go and then leave at setbreak.” But the sweet, sweet rhythms wouldn’t let me go. PK’s bass, the light tap of the organ, reggie voice resonating through walls, the synchnopated thunder of the kit, thaddeus running me through the streets of funkytown, and the horn calling me to the promised land. Work would still be there if I went home at 11.30 or 2. Wise choice grasshopper. I’ll return, at least for the next few weeks on a regular basis and then maybe space it out to once or twice a month.
As an added bonus, everyone should try to go see Bobby Previte’s The Coalition of the Willing on Friday at the Tractor. Also, if you live in Oregon or California, look at the tour dates for the rest of the month.
An adventure waiting to happen, Saturday May 6th. No pictures of the days early events, relaxing in the cloudy haze of a seattle saturday in may. Seersucker was in the air, as the ponies engaged in their surroundings, and the bourbon slid over the gently bruised leaves of the mint.
A small mass of humans plied themselves with deep fried turkey, red velvet cake, dough encrusted olives, and wagers of infinite possibilities. The horsies ran, people won, and Brain instructed.
No pictures, only memories of a fine saturday afternoon.
My party wasn’t going to end so easily. The benz guided me back to the confines of west seattle, a little relaxation in the home before taking off on another quest.
Maureen’s 30th birthday was later in the night. Bling bling was the theme of the party. I enjoy putting on a good show as anyone else. I attempted to put forward my best party appearance. Nothing like the straw hat, to layers of checks, and genuine plastic bling for that down home jump back feeling. A nice gift of pimp my cubicle is the fitting bling birthday gift. Heike and Terry explore the silver in their lives. For future reference, if you want plastic bling with a halloween feel, head to Champion Party Supply. The final group, captured for eternity, tries to touch the “animal” side of the bling.

ed also provides some photo documentation of his spring parties with Maureen’s coming near the end.
