Fish are tricky. they invite the neighborhood racoons and then you need to place some kind of screen/grating over the pond to prevent the racoons from getting a free dinner. The screen sort of defeats the effect of the pond in my eyes.

Although, I do plan on adding some water plants in the near future. I also tiered the depths of the pond. A foot deep near the rockpile, 18 inches toward the front portion and 30 inches deep in the back left portion. I did a little reading and figured out that different plants like different depths. The 30 inch portion would be good if a decide to add fish later on.

Your yard looks so lovely. Makes mine look like a rock-pit dirt hole. Granted, a nicely terraced rock-pit dirt hole, but a rock-pit dirt hole nonetheless. Any plans to add koi to the pond?
