A couple of weekends, we went and stayed at a friend’s cabin on vashon. As it happened, it was also Megan’s birthday. Chard created another in a series of masterpieces for dinner. An excellent beef tenderloin with homemade raviolis topped with shoestring leaks. Things threatened to fall apart at one point in the evening as the power decided to go out just as we were getting ready to boil the water for the raviolis. We were able to improvise and boil them on the propane grill. As always, many things contribute to me forgetting to take pictures of the items in the meal before they get eaten. Of course, I completely forgot to get the camera out in the morning when Chard created the eggs benedict the following morning.
The weather had threatened to rain the whole time we were there but the sunshine broke out for awhile during the day on Sunday. I’ve got a picture of sunset and one during the day. It’s nice to have this kind of paradise so close. If we hit the ferry right, it’s less than an hour from door to door.
well, well, well… our good friend mr scott bellman was married this afternoon. good times were had by all. i present you with one image from today’s festivities.
At July 17, 2008, 8.25 AM, Otto Miller Thorberg burst into the room. Making things brighter for all of those around. It was an interesting process to say the least. Water broke at 12.30 AM, we went to the hospital about 4 AM, Megan was getting ready to push at 7 AM. Dr. checked the baby one last time before the push and declared “That’s not it’s head!” He seems to have tricked us all these last few weeks. Breech baby here we come. The staff whisked her off to the operating room and out he popped at 8.25 AM. Long and lean - 6lbs 0.5ozs and 19 inches.
These are all photos from the operating room. Otto getting cleaned up and ready to perform. Momma and Otto. The happy family. Why are you looking at me?
A video of his first bath and a vocal chord display. The wash cloth doesn’t please him much.
Finally, a picture of me and Otto. I realized. I need to take more pictures of Megan and Otto. I focused a little too much on Otto yesterday. Granted, Megan took this one today. More as things transpire. Things are progressing well and we’ll most likely get to go home on Saturday.
tuesday night was our 1st childbirthing class. oh the excitement. the lady teaching the class was quite nice and very enthusiastic. for the first time i got to see the birth of a baby on a video. wasn’t as gross as i expected but i’m sure in person will take on a whole new light. there were 8 couples in all. the class is 4 - 2 hour sessions. most of last night dealt with knowing when you are in labor and he different things that happen leading up to it. good to get this information from someone in person instead of just reading it again in a book.
we came home after that and megan had gotten a package from her mom and dad - wheee - a rocking chair. so we set that up and megan tried it out with little baby tiberious. we also wanted to try out the bassinet. it’s a good hiding place for tiberious. we tried to swaddle tiberious but that didn’t work so much, so he just got to wear a hat.
After the records departed, the computer room and the green room were melded into one. Went to Babies R Us (slightly scary on a Saturday) to get the crib. Sunday, we strolled to Ikea and bought some curtains and hung them up. Still need some little things but overall it’s a baby room.
Other baby news:
Went and checked out our first day care center. 4 blocks from our house, so an easy walk. All the kids will filter into our local elementary school, Highland Park Elementary. I liked it and baby will probably end up there in January until the end of my school year.
31 week check up. No big surprises. My weight is up. Baby is kicking away. Discussed birthing plan.
Checked out the diaper service. Looks like we’ll give them a shot. They’ll drop off clean diapers once a week. We just need to purchase the diaper cover.
Unrelated news:
I get done with school June 13th!!! yippee. I can’t wait to listen to the new pond and pugs barking all day.
good thing i got a new job and a bus pass. B99 at the local station was $5.15/gallon when i filled the tank. luckily i only needed 18 gallons so i didn;t have to cross the $100/tank barrier.
Another successful run for the crib tourney. Lots of fun was had by all as Seth hosted a fine cribbage tournament. Unfortunately, I wasn;t at the top of my game to take adequate photos of the corned beef or sausages that were consumed.
Dougie stood string and joined the elite club of 2-time winners that include Mugger, Tall, and Jeff. Here’s Dougie being paraded around in the wagon with the trophy that Mugger fashioned for the winner.
We went to the Sonics game last night, courtesy of Megan. She put together a few presentations/assemblies - one during school for the students and one during the evening for the community. Various speakers came and talked about about Nothing but Nets and the help/assistance this program provides. Nothing but Nets has a partnership with the Sonics and the NBA. So as a part of the fundraising drive, the Sonics donated tickets to the class that raised the most money. As a result, Megan got us into the game plus she got some airtime on the center court big screen.
so does this officially mean i’m a man? i bottled my first homebrew today. ancient norwegian recipe. however, there is a ton of sugar in the recipe. tried a little sample, obviously sweet and flat, but overall it didn’t make me want to throw up when i drank it. so far so good. i also used some hops we grew in the backyard. good times.
i am an idiot. six years of pictures gone like that when my hard drive crashes. the blog has many of my favorite photos, so not a total loss. luckily, spenser has the most updated batch of music, so that’s not a total loss. i’ll be sending you a hard drive in the mail.
heh. i even called about data recovery services. one place said it would take anywhere from 6-16 hours @ $149/hr. so if any one knows somebody inexpensive
edit: we’ll see how it goes. i ordered the same exact drive hoping that swapping controllers will give me access to my data!
Already in disarray. I forgot to get a (correct) tap for the guinness. So, I have a keg of guinness i the keg fridge with no way to access it. I’ve got a lot of feelers out there but so far no luck. I don’t want to have to cry. Bad beef.
as always mugger saves the day. keg is tapped and flowing.
edit: all hail mugger as the winner of the 10th annual cribbage tournament. after a mighty struggle, he was victorious at 3.45 in the morning.
well, the stranger came to its senses and put the maakies back in the weekly. above the strip, in bold letters read, “Here’s Maakies, You Bastards.” Hooray.
In this weeks strip, they allude to a cartoon on Adult Swim.
Better late than never. Posting has been a chore for one reason or another, here is a flurry of posts to get caught up on things I have done over the last month and a half.
The first set is halloween. I was a reborn elvis back fresh from a USO Tour in Iraq. megan was modest mouse and the man in the mask is el diablo verde. no one knows his true identity and i think no one really wants to know.
Poor, poor, 300D. I’m sorry I wasn’t quick enough to get out of the way. Sigh, at least you still drive. Will you forgive me? Will I be able to save you? Only time will tell.
Labor day weekend involved a trek to philly and the greater pennsylvania area to attend Andy and Beth’s wedding reception. Good time were had by all as the whole miller clan arrived en masse to work their magic in pennsylvania. Not a whole lot of babble, just some good pictures and good drinking.
Day 1 - Thursday
We took the redeye from seattle which meant no sleep for Beef until Thursday night. We had a quick bite to eat at the Black Sheep Pub. A couple of cups of coffee sent me off to explore the various historic instituions in downtown. The Liberty Bell, Independnece Hall, the Constitution Center, and various other historical buildings from the day. Aaron, Jill, and Emily arrived Thursday evening. WE set out to do a little bit of destruction. The Continental was first on our list, then the Westin, next was Oscar’s, and finally a drunken cab ride to cheesesteaks at both Geno’s and Pat’s. I’d have to say Pat’s was better due to the lack of politics. Then we spent our first night in Philly at Club Quarters. If you stay in any of the major cities, I’d say try to be a member of this place or at least find a frien who is, low prices and a decent room in the heart of downtown.
ah. last weekend was spent in the friendly confines of albuquerque as we witnessed sack and elisa get it on, marriage style. here are a couple of pictures to enjoy. the first is our wedding gifts from neighborhoodies and the second is from the glorious day. the third is sack in his dope western wear. word has it the buckle and the bolo are on the way. next up boots to make the man.
